New Year Fireworks

The Believers started the New Year with a game at Fuller lake Arena vs the ET Talons of Nanaimo.
You could tell both teams were really revved up as this game was as quick moving in the first period as any game in Believers history.
The Talons started quick as they scored once on a breakaway and once on a incredible effort by an ET winger cutting towards the net and giving them a 2-0 lead. The Believers persevered and tied up the game with goals by Matt Foster and Ed Busch. The Believers took the lead with a beautiful Matt Stark shot from the deep slot that went off the inside of the post and in. Coincidentally, a Believer winger lost an edge and fell on top of the goaltender. The goalie sustained a knee injury and left the game.
Although the injury seemed very serious at the moment, he was eventually able to put some weight on the leg and will be checked out later. The injury was a complete accident but it shows how quickly things can happen in the game and how we all must do our best to respect all players both physically and verbally. These games get very intense, but we must all lessen the intensity level and realize it is a game and we are in it for fun, friendship and fitness. Winning is secondary and if it is the main focus, we are in the wrong league.
The Believers and Talons always have great games and we hope that these sorts of incidents can always be talked about and any potential conflict resolved so that no hard feelings are ever carried into the future.
Our next game is January 9 at 8:30 vs The Oasis Church at Lake Cowichan.
