Unity Cup- Saturday -"who are we ?"

Although the Believers only won one game and lost two, they still have made the semi-finals on Sunday.
Due to goals against, thanks to Paul Brown and a very hard working defense, we passed two teams.
The Believers are a very hard working skilled team. Although the team name may be trivial to some, as you come on Sunday and play, please remember that the jersey symbolizes a life choice, the fact that we 'believe' in Jesus Christ, and that it's not just another hockey team name. Whatever we've done can be wiped fresh daily and we can begin each day with a clean slate. We are going to fail many times while on this earth, but knowing that we have someone with us to help and guide us sure is reassuring. Who knows where Captain Mart would be right now if Christ had not dragged him out of the muck and given His new life.
Although the captain got very angry with the conduct of two or three players at the end of Saturday's final game, he has a very short memory, but would expect those players to show the class and integrity that we want the fans and other teams to remember us by.
See ya all at 2:00 pm.

Season Finale- Believers Vs Oasis

Tonight the Believers played their regular season final game against the Oasis Church
of Duncan. As a warm up to the Unity Cup tournament, the Believers played well with energy and short shifts being triumphant in the 9-5 victory. The 'kid' line, Wes, Ed and Mitch was the game story as they had the Oasis on their heels from their first shift til their last. The combined points for that line was about 14 points as Wes led the way. He earned the team hardhat as the night's MVP. Rick Hornett also scored a pair, with Matt stark notching a beauty in the last minute. Paul Brown played solid in net as the Oasis'goals were mostly bouncing pucks. He was really impressed with the defense tonight as they always kept the shots from the outside.
This was a great way to finish the regular season and we all are looking forward to a spirited affair at the Unity Cup this weekend.

Believers Vs Talons

Tonight the Believers played a great team game as the Believers won 8-5. All three lines played well, but the Jeremy - Rick - Dean line were on fire. Rick Hornett scored a natural hat-trick early in the game. He incidentally was the games MVP earning the coveted Believers hardhat. Dean Skead, a late call up for injured Darrin Rae, scored a highlight reel goal as the pass by Jeremy was just ahead of his stick and as he dove, he got the hard shot away.Jeremy Doiron also scored a beauty as he deeked forehand, froze the goalie and roofed the backhand. Matt Foster, played defense tonight with Greg Hess. They jived great together and Matt got one of his patented one on four dipsy-doodle goals. Other goal scorers were Derek Brenton and Wes Fenner.
The Believers play their final regular season game Sunday night at 6:00 pm at Lake Cowichan vs the Oasis. The Unity Cup Tournament is next weekend.

Fire Hall Extinguished

Tonight, The Believers had a lineup that would have taken a very good team to beat. Due to a lack of players, the Crofton Fire Hall were not that team, and therefore got crushed 15-5.It was really great to have Matt Foster and Matt Stark back in the lineup. They both had very strong games and scored highlight reel goals. The biggest problem for the B's was the lack of motivation and real lack of intensity. From the get go, one could tell who was going to win the game, and it was really hard to stay focused. This win gives the Believers team a 500 record on the season as they have a 3-0-1 record heading into their final two games next weekend.

First Shutout

Tonight the Believers played a great game. Both defensive pairings kept the shots to a minimum as Dean Skead allowed no goals. Although he didn't face as many shots as usual, he had to make a few tricky saves and use smart judgment to earn the Believers first shutout. Scott Carruthers, a last minute call up from the farm worked well with Jacob as they played solid defensively and had numerous offensive chances. The pairing of Greg Hess and Darrin Rae played fantastic. They looked like seasoned partners as Darrin made many smart decisions and combined with Greg's great energy and wheels they were dual hardhat winners tonight.
Mitch scored a beauty on a breakaway as he deaked backhand making the final score 2-0 as his line-mate Wes had scored earlier. Energy and determination was evident in this game, one of the Believers finest to date. Next week the B's play the Crofton Fire Hall for their final meeting of the year.
