Game #8 vs Christian Reformed Church

The Believers knew they were in for a tough game against the #1 rated CRC from Duncan. The B's jumped out to a instant 2-0 lead with goals from Dennis Nadon and Dave Welch.Unfortunately, that was the only lead the Believers had as they went down in defeat 10-7.The work ethic was excellent, but when the CRC had opportunities, they buried them.Turnovers became odd man rushes which resulted in goals for the skilled CRC team.Dennis Nadon had a great game scoring a hat trick and adding 2 assists.Other goal scorers were Matt Stark with 2,and Nathan Hollett who was skating very well tonight.Dave Skead played well tonight, but the CRC had too many quality chances. The team feels good about the effort, but the better team won this evening. The Believers have one more game against the CRC on April 22.Way to stick with it and never give up Boyz ! Game #7 vs The E.T. Talons of Nanaimo

What a great hockey game ! There were 80 fans,a wonderful rendition of Oh Canada sung by Lorinda Bedard, two energetic evenly matched teams and great sportsmanship exemplified by all players tonight. In this game the final score was secondary to the spirit in the building. Both teams played hard yet there was a real friendliness that carried forward after the game into the dinner.
In tonights Believer's 5-2 win,Ryan Hollett was doing it all.He scored 3 goals and added 1 assist while still showing his solid defensive abilities. The line of Dennis Nadon,Dr.Dave Welch and Paul Brown showed great chemistry tonight keeping the Talon's continually hemmed in their own zone. They were +10 collectively. The strong defence of Matt Stark,Scott Hess,Ken Dame, the aformentioned Ryan H and the athleticism of goalie Sean Pogue kept the potent offence of the Talons to a mimimum. The duo of Steve Laidlaw and Greg Hess did a great job officiating.Anne Olsen and Cindy Nadon looked and sounded like seasoned veterans in the scorekeepers box.
At the halfway point of the season, the Believers are 5-1-1.The next 3 games are crucial to the teams momentum for they begin on Tuesday against the Christian Reformed Church who handed the team their only loss of the season.Saturday against Courtenay Baptist, and sunday against Glad Tidings of Victoria will not be easy. Both teams have many experienced players and aren't planning to travel all the way to Chemainus to lose.Capt.Marty knows that the team must play one shift at a time but with different players stepping up each night, great teamwork and team chemistry improving game by game, the best is yet to come ! Way to work together Boyz !

Game #6 vs The Oasis Church

The Believers are starting to gel. There were 5 different goal scorers in the B's 5-3 win.Matt Stark and Ryan Hollett got the B's an early 2-0 lead with partial breakaway goals. The Oasis came back with 3 unanswered goals of their own.Dr Dave Welch ,who was late to the game because of an emergency call made an instant impact when he thred the needle with a wrister through the Oasis goalies legs.Corry Gibson showed glimpses of his College hockey days when he made no mistake with a quick rebound shot top corner past the goaltender.Corry's goal stood up as the game winner.Donny Deeble iced the game when he went went hard to the net and put the puck past the sprawled goalie. Both Paul Brown and Bryan Hamre had good games tonight showing great hustle and strong positional play.Although the game was a little chippy, there is no lack of intensity when these two teams meet. The teams are fairly evenly matched, and will meet for the final time of the season on April 11th.This win gives the Believers a 4-1-1 record and may be the team to beat in the Unity Cup Tournament in May.Great Teamwork Boyz.Capt. Game #5 vs The Talons (Evangelistic Tabernacle of Nanaimo)

Atmosphere. The large rink, the fans ,the fun, clean hockey and great teamwork. This is what stood out for me in tonights' game.A full roster, quick changes, and solid defence by the whole Believers team resulted in a 4-1 win.Greg Hollett scored twice while Matt Stark and Darren Rae each scored once. Sean Pogue played great in net.Darren Rae scored a beauty as he had a partial breakaway with a defencemen draped all over him.He protected the puck and snapped the puck by the ET goaltender. The whole team worked hard.Matt's energy ,Greg's quick hands,Ed's speed,Ryan's smooth stride,Ken's work ethic and Darren's positional play were all factors in this victory. More players could easily be mentioned ,but my one finger typing makes that too long a process.

This win gives the B's a 3-1-1 record. The teams next game is slated a week tonight ,that being Sunday March 19 vs The Oasis at Lake Cowichan at 7:00 pm.The following Sunday,March 26,at 4:00 pm at Fuller Lake is the rematch against ET.A dinner is planned afterwards with players and families from both teams.Details will be upcoming.Thanx to all for another fun team effort.Keep up the good work Boyz !! Game #4 vs New Life Church

The Believers showed up tonight ! With Greg Hollett and Matt Stark leading the way with 3 goals each ,the Believers put out their best offensive output of the year for the lopsided 12-4 win.Firing on all cylinders,no one stood out as the MVP,as this was a great team effort. When the short-benched New Life team had it's chances, the dominant presence of the defence kept shots and rebounds to a minimun for Dave Skead who had another strong game in net.Jonathan Hollett, making his first appearance in Believers red showed his great speed and a strong transition game on defence.Ed Busch had a brilliant game on defence showing great anticipation, and jumping up into the play showing his great wheels and deadly shot.

The rematch against New Life on April 25 will not be so easy. With some regulars back in their lineup, and a full roster, the Believers will have to forget about tonights game and expect a very different team then. The next game up for the Believers is on Sunday,March 12 at 6:00 pm against the Newly formed Evangelistic Tabernacle church from Nanaimo.Scouting reports say that this is a motivated team with both young legs and seasoned veterans.A full roster is expected to play for the B's on Sunday as regulars Sean Pogue, Scott Hesse and Corry Gibson should be back in the lineup.Great Team Effort !
See you Sunday Boyz, Capt. Mart
